Those who are new to exercising often times aren’t sure whether or not to sign up for a membership at a local gym or construct one in their own home. If you should decide on the latter, rest assured that building one may not be as difficult as you might believe.
Important Tips Before Setting Up a Home Gym
A home gym is comprised of several different pieces of equipment connected to form a station. These are known as multi-gyms, and are considered ideal for training at home because don’t take up much space and are versatile.
Setting up a home gym can be done in a variety of ways, but should ideally consist of cardiovascular exercise, muscle training, and weight training. Equipment most commonly used for strength training includes a bench, curl bar, abdominal worker, dumbbells, a mat, exercise balls, and so forth. This equipment is simple, portable, and fairly easy to use. Home gyms can also include more advanced machines such as multi-gyms, stationary bikes, treadmills, elliptical trainers, etc.

For instance, let’s say you are a beginner and your goal is general fitness, muscle tone, flexibility, and weight management. In this scenario, purchasing advanced home gym equipment is likely more than you need. Instead, a more suitable home gym might consist of a set of dumbbells, adjustable bench, exercise mat, and a fitness ball.
Multi-gyms that consist of different machines connected as one appeal to some due to taking up less space and convenience. These can range in price anywhere from $500 -$4,000, depending on the quality, flexibility, and exercise options.
If you are the type that exercises at a high level of intensity, investing in complete set of dumbbells, plates, and exercise bench is recommended. A multi-gym that is more advanced, priced in the range of $1000-$2000, would more than likely suit your needs. The gym should consist of:

The amount of money you invest in your home gym is entirely up to you, but should be based on your goals and requirements. With that said, be sure to factor in the amount of space you have in your home before investing in any equipment. Some make the mistake of buying equipment that takes up too much space. When looking at multi-gyms, check the exact dimensions after you put it together, including the attachments and extensions. Also keep in mind that you also need space for stretching and other exercises you may want to do.
